My husband and I are gringo expats who immediately fell in love with the furious heartbeat that is Mexico City. Since we have been here, we have worked, danced, made strangers friends, eaten, drunk, explored, bought and absorbed every bit of art and culture that we could. But, what happens with this city is that when you think you are getting to know it, it simply opens its arms much more. And as much as we wanted to get out of bed and hug her, we were completely exhausted. We needed to get away and I knew just who to ask for a recommendation, our neighbor Jay, who had a spectacular mustache and an encyclopedic knowledge of the best places in and around the city.
Jay knew of the perfect place, one of the best hotels in Cuernavaca Centro , but seemed hesitant to share. After persuading him, I discovered this secret place just outside the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos: Las Casas B + B Boutique Hotel. When Jay described this little oasis, I noticed that his eyes were smiling. Reserved. Packed. Bam!
Before I knew it, we were right in front of our hotel in the heart of the historic center of downtown Cuernavaca. We took a few steps inside, stopped, and smiled. The luxurious greenery perfectly accentuates the clean, white lines of these 2 early 1900s colonial homes that were beautifully converted into eleven rooms. It was modern, but at the same time nostalgic and as relaxed as it was luxurious ... just our vibe. Now let me talk about the staff, each person we passed or had the pleasure of meeting treated us like family. You listen to this a lot, but I mean it; This type of genuine heat cannot be taught or rehearsed. We really felt at home even before we got to our room , which was spotless and discreet and cozy. We loved the sleek shades of faint black, gray and white ... just our style.
Our relaxation regimen was like this: magical massages followed by poolside Mojitos and "ridiculously good" ceviches and truffle fries. An unexpected nap, somehow, settled on the agenda. For those struggling to fall asleep during the day like us, let me tell you that the celebrity massage followed by a craft cocktail (or two) is a guaranteed ticket to "Siesta-chiapan". And that ultra thick mattress definitely helped!
Half We floated downstairs for dinner and discovered that the place had magically transformed. The rustic, inviting garden was now flickering with countless candles and lights, and somehow they had managed to tie the moon down to float above the pool. I'm not cheesy, but it was undeniably romantic and another unexpected delight. Dinner was a beautiful fusion of flavors that made us share and taste everything. An extra thanks for those pork ribs in plum sauce!
As the moon grew, so did the clientele, and the venue was transformed once again when the DJ started playing. We chose a cozy sofa near the pool for a last drink, which we were now sure was the best of the hotels in downtown Cuernavaca. A Carajillo. Perfection.
The next morning we rushed down to breakfast as teenagers and devoured the Chilaquiles HOUSE , which were so good that I really considered licking the plate. Relaxed and rejuvenated, we replicated this perfect getaway in our minds and I couldn't help but notice that my husband's eyes were smiling. I suddenly felt protective of this place, like Jay, for fear that sharing it with the world would somehow ruin its perfection. So don't shout it from the rooftops because I promise you that once you experience this wonderful boutique hotel - the best of the hotels in Cuernavaca downtown with a pool - you will also want to keep it a secret.
